Mission Impossible!
A week of Science at the Maynard School
Devon youngsters at the Maynard School will explore all things scientific in a dedicated science week as part of National Science and Engineering Week 2010.
On Tuesday 16 March, girls at the Maynard Junior School will take part in a number of different scientific themes in an off-timetable day of problem solving activities, challenges and scientific experiments. The students will work in small teams to try and find out where the Maynard Science Department’s missing Copper Sulphate is. Their mission is to find it and return it to the Science Department, but it may not be as easy as it sounds – Mission Impossible!
The Maynard Senior School students will also take part in a number of science-related activities including ‘egg races’ on Wednesday 17 March, during which they will build a boat out of newspaper which is strong enough to hold an egg, and rocket launches on Friday 19 March.
Maynard Headmistress, Ms Bee Hughes, said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for students to take part in practical investigative science and work as part of a team to solve a problem. By exploring scientific challenges in a fun and exciting way, we hope to encourage and inspire the next generation of budding scientists.’
Mission Impossible will take place on Tuesday 16 March, Wednesday 17 March and Friday 19 March. There will be a photocall at 12.00 on the Tuesday, and 1.30pm on the Wednesday and Friday.
