Dub Poetry goes down a storm at Sexey’s
Dub Poet Lennox Carty recently visited Sexey’s School in Somerset, as part of the school’s Humanities College status. He ran sessions with Year 8 and Year 10 focusing on the themes of respect and disrespect and the environment. As well as listening to Lennox’s performances of his poetry, students got a chance to compose their own poems.
Paul Ogunfolaju, said ‘the experience I had this morning was amazing I loved it especially because Lennox rapped about the truth and about life situations not like others that go on about girls, cars, drugs and guns and most of the time they start talking rubbish but Lennox speaks the truth and whilst talking he speaks sense’. Max Chesnokov, referred to the session as ‘inspiring’, ‘interesting’ and ‘amusing’, while Nelly Mason said that ‘after the session I was talking to people about it and it seemed that he really made an impact and changed the way people were thinking’.
